FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – NEW STATEWIDE AFRICAN-AMERICAN MENTAL HEALTH STATISTICS REPORT

LOS ANGELES- The State of California through the Department of Mental Health commissioned the CRDP (California Reducing Disparities Project). There are five separate groups that are represented- Latino, Asian/Pacific Islander, Native American, LGBT and African-American. Dr. Diane Woods and AAHI-SBC was selected to be the lead researcher for the African-American population report. After almost three years of data collecting, Dr. Woods is ready to release the report to the masses.

As a special session of the National Black Mental Health Worker’s Conference, the unveiling of this extensive and extremely-detailed data is anticipated to change how African-Americans are viewed, as well as professionally treated, in regards to those who suffer from any percentage of mental illness. California Governor Jerry Brown signed off on this report, officially titled “We Ain’t Crazy! Just Coping with a Crazy System”, earlier this year. All 58 counties in the State of California are represented in this 387-page report.

There will also be a special conversation regarding the mental health status of Jesse Jackson, Jr. with anticipated expert analysis from some of the leading African-American mental health professionals in America today.
